Verse 1 I bind unto myself today the Father, Spirit, Son I call upon the holy Name of God the three in One. I rise today by power of faith that Christ was born to save Conquering death upon the cross and bursting from the grave. Chorus: Christ before me, Christ behind Christ to guide me, Christ beside Christ to comfort, Christ restore Hallelujah, Christ is Lord Verse 2 I bind unto myself the power of His redeeming love The sweet well done of judgement hour In Christ this work is done. Chorus: Christ before me, Christ behind Christ to guide me, Christ beside Christ to comfort, Christ restore Hallelujah, Christ is Lord Verse 3 I bind unto myself the might of God to hold and stay. His ear to hear, His eye to see, His hand to guide the way. Against the demon snares of sin that drive temptation's storm The lust, the greed, the wars of men, in Christ their hold is torn. Chorus: Christ before me, Christ behind Christ to guide me, Christ beside Christ to comfort, Christ restore Hallelujah, Christ is Lord

Verse 1 I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus, the Nazarene, and wonder how how He could love me, a sinner, condemned, unclean. Verse 2 For me it was in the garden He prayed, "Not my will, but Thine"; He had no tears for His own griefs, but sweat drops of blood for mine. Chorus: How marvelous! how wonderful! and my song shall ever be; how marvelous, how wonderful! is my Savior’s love for me! Verse 3 He took my sins and my sorrows, He made them His very own; He bore the burden to Calvary, and suffered and died alone. Chorus: How marvelous! how wonderful! and my song shall ever be; how marvelous, how wonderful! is my Savior’s love for me! Verse 4 When with the ransomed in glory His face I at last shall see, ’twill be my joy through the ages to sing of His love for me. [Refrain] Chorus: How marvelous! how wonderful! and my song shall ever be; how marvelous, how wonderful! is my Savior’s love for me!

Verse 1 Out of the depths, Lord hear my cry I bow my head, swallow my pride If you should keep a record of wrongs Lord who could stand? All hope would be gone Pre-Chorus I wait for You, I trust in Your word You give us grace where none is deserved. Chorus More than the watchman waits for the morning So does my soul wait here for You, Lord I don’t want to move, I don’t want to speak Not ‘til I know I’ve heard from Your Word I’ll wait all night with eyes wide open, I’m not going to sleep ‘til I am whole 'Til I am whole 'Til I am whole ‘wholly Yours Verse 2 All of my life is held in Your hands Unfailing love, covers my sin You will redeem, You will restore Out of Your grace, forgiveness is poured Pre-Chorus I wait for You, I trust in Your word You give us grace where none is deserved. Chorus More than the watchman waits for the morning So does my soul wait here for You, Lord I don’t want to move, I don’t want to speak Not ‘til I know I’ve heard from Your Word I’ll wait all night with eyes wide open, I’m not going to sleep ‘til I am whole 'Til I am whole 'Til I am whole wholly Yours

Heaven sent a child to save us, light for all to see Helpless baby, mighty savior, holy mystery. Unto us a son is given, born in Bethlehem Lamb of God the light of nations, God in flesh became Chorus Watching, waiting, longing for the day When His people would glorify the Name above all names Verse 2 For the joy that lay before Him, chose our agony Jesus bore the wrath of Calvary, washing sinners clean. Our Messiah, Christ our brother, word of God in flesh Loosed the chains that held us captive, broke the bonds of death Chorus Watching, waiting, longing for the day When His people would glorify the Name above all names Verse 3 So we wait with expectation for His Advent here. Bride of Christ, His word proclaimed for all the world to hear. He will come in clouds descending at the trumpet sound In the light of Christ our Savior every knee will bow. Final Chorus Born in an manger, dying on a tree Rising Easter morning to set His people free (We’re) Watching, waiting, longing for the day When all nations will glorify the Name above all names

Verse 1 O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home: Verse 2 Under the shadow of your throne Still may we dwell secure; sufficient is Thine arm alone, and our defense is sure. Chorus: Today, tomorrow, in ages past The Alpha, Omega, the first and last. Who is, Who was, Who is to come The Father, the Spirit, the risen Son Verse 3 Before the hills in order stood or earth received its frame, from everlasting Thou art God, to endless years the same. Verse 4. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, Be Thou our guide while life shall last, and our eternal home! Chorus: Chorus: Today, tomorrow, in ages past The Alpha, Omega, the first and last. Who is, Who was, Who is to come The Father, the Spirit, the risen Son Verse 4 O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, Be Thou our guide while life shall last, and our eternal home!

Verse 1 And can it be that I should gain An interest in the Savior's blood? Died He for me, who caused His pain- For me, who Him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me? Chorus: Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me? Verse 2 He left His Father's throne above So free, so infinite His grace- Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam's helpless race: 'Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me! Chorus: Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me? Verse 3 Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature's night; Thine eye diffused a quickening ray- I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee. My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee. Chorus: Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Verse 1 The long night has passed, the dawn has arrived so open your mouths to sing. Come open your hearts, come open your eyes, in unity before the King. For Christ is the light that's shining on us chasing the darkness away and His open arms are drawing us near. He's calling his people to pray. Verse 2 Our Father in heav'n it is the delight of angels and saints above to worship before Your glorious throne announcing Your beauty and love. Lord, grant us a glimpse of all they behold unveil our limited eyes that we might perfect Your praises on earth will all of our hearts opened wide Verse 3 The valleys and hills, the oceans and skies, the trees and the fruitful lands are all telling forth the Glory of God, proclaiming the work of His hands. So with all creation we lift our voice filling the earth with praise. May we truly be Your people today in all that we do and we say. Verse 4 So pardon us Lord, for wrongs we have done and help us to enter in the Kingdom of God whose doorway is Christ, the path to forgiveness of sins. How great is the love the Father has shown calling us children of God. No height and no depth, no devil or foe can separate us from His love. Can separate us from His love. Ending: How great is the love the Father has shown calling us children of God. No height and no depth, no devil or foe can separate us from His love. Can separate us from His love.

Verse: Verse 1 Depth of mercy! Can there be Mercy still reserved for me? Can my God His wrath forbear, Me, the chief of sinners, spare? Me, the chief of sinners, spare? Verse 2 I have long withstood His grace, Long provoked Him to His face, Would not listen to His calls, Grieved Him by a thousand falls. Grieved Him by a thousand falls. Chorus I my Master have denied, I afresh have crucified, And profaned His hallowed Name, Put Him to an open shame. Put Him to an open shame. Verse 3 Now incline me to repent let me now my sins lament Now my foul revolt deplore Turn, believe, and sin no more. Turn, believe, and sin, no more. Chorus 2 There for me the Savior stands, Holding out His nail scarred hands. God is love! I know, I feel; Jesus saves and loves me still. Jesus saves and loves me still.

about

CCM Magazine Review of Hymns, Prayers, and Invitations:
“Crafted directly from inspiration found in hymnals and prayer books, songwriter and worship leader Rick Lee James offers Hymns, Prayers and Invitations. It is with the intentionality behind the last word of the album title, Invitations, that makes this project a stand out. More than a collection of hymny interpretations or simple song book upgrades, James’ purposeful use of lyric, timbre, and track synchronism should lead the listener into moments of powerful communication and worship with the Lord. Hymns, Prayers and Invitations drip with soundtracks of Sunday morning sanctuaries to intimately personal prayer closet concerts.”

Hymns, Prayers, and Invitations - Rick Lee James - Independent - in cooperation with Lifeway Worship
This is probably the only album in history to recieve an endorsement from world renown theologian Walter Brueggemann, who says, "Rick Lee James has a great gift for taking up familiar words and giving them freshness with new cadence and voicing. I anticipate that this album will be received as a great gift by many who will find their faith nourished and awakened by it." Written and arranged using hymnals and prayer books for inspiration, this collection of 10 modern hymnic worship songs will inspire individuals and congregations to draw near to the heart of God. Highlights include Christ Is Lord (Christ Before Me) inspired by St. Patrick's Breastplate Prayer, Advent Hymn (Watching, Wating, Longing), and the communion hymn, The Invitation. Worship leaders will be glad to know that Lifeway Worship is publishing music for each song on this intentionally congregational album.

"I have listened to Hymns, Prayers, and Invitations and am so grateful for it. Rick Lee James has a great gift for taking up familiar words and giving them freshness with new cadence and voicing. I love the Advent Hymn (Watching, Waiting, Longing), which gives newness to the phrases of Isaiah. Watching, waiting, and longing is what we do now, and these songs help us do that in confidence. I anticipate that this album will be received as a great gift by many who will find their faith nourished and awakened by it."

Walter Brueggemann

From Rick Lee James:
To The Listeners: My prayer is that this record will inspire you to worship God our Father, through Jesus the Son, in the power of the Holy Spirit. I wrote and arranged these songs using hymnals, prayer books and works of theology; serving and receiving the Lord's Supper as often as I could, in order to accept God's invitation. My hope and prayer is that these songs will help you, as well, to accept the invitation of our Savior. I hope you can hear and feel the logical flow from one song to the next as you worship through the album from start to finish. No matter who you are, what you've done, or where you've been, God loves you and welcomes you to His table; for everyone there is a place. I pray this music and the pace of this record will be spiritual food and drink for you. Take and eat, raise and drink, this is the invitation.
