Verse 1 The wicked give directions down the easy street Blessed are those who do not follow them The wicked follow the crowd wherever it may lead Blessed are those who do not follow them But those who keep their minds upon the things of God Will be like trees planted by the water Chorus Growing deep their roots, they will bear good fruit And their leaves will not be withered on the ground. God will watch their paths and they’ll learn to watch Him back But beware the roads the wicked send you down. Verse 2 The wicked, like the chaff the wind will blow away Blessed are those who do not follow them The wicked cannot stand upon the judgment day Blessed are those who do not follow them But those who keep their minds upon the things of God Will be like trees planted by the water Back to Chorus Bridge: The wicked will not stand, only a righteous man Has a place before a righteous God There are many ways so which on will you take? Blessed are those who take the righteous one. Back to Chorus

As the deer pants for water, so my soul thirsts for You The living God, the living God. My tears won’t stop falling, in the daytime or the night And people say, “Where is Your God”? I used to go to the house of the Lord With shouts of joy and praise Oh those were the days Chorus Why are you downcast, oh my soul? Why so disturbed inside? Put your trust in the Lord you God In these lonely times, I will still praise Him Verse 2 Clear my name, deliver me. You’re the refuge that I seek From these evil men, these wicked men. Send Your light, send Your truth. Have you cast me off from You? These wicked men are trying to bring me down. Bring me back to your dwelling place, Let me sing for joy again. For the wicked will not win. Back to Chorus Verse 3 As the deep calls to deep. As the waves begin to roll over me I will sing Your songs. Enemies have surrounded, they throw their words at me: “Where is your God? Where is your God? Have You forgotten about me Lord? The thunder drowns Your voice… But I still have a choice (Back to Chorus)

1.) Mercy, please have mercy according to Your steadfast love, O God. My sin is before me. I have sinned against you Lord, my God. I know You’re right when You judge me I have done evil in Your sight. I knew I was wrong when I fell to sins desire So I won’t even try to justify 2.) Cleanse me, please cleanse me. Only You can wash me white as snow. Teach me, Your wisdom. Hide Your face from all these things I’ve done. Create in me a clean heart Cast me not away from You Don’t take You Spirit out of my life Restore me to the joy of knowing You. 3.) Save me, to save others. Open up my mouth to sing Your praise. My heart is my offering, I give it back to You for all my days. You’ve no delight in a sacrifice of show So I give to You my God, all my heart and soul. Broken apart is a heart You won’t despise I give to You this broken life.

Verse 1 I had nearly fallen away. My feet had almost stumbled The wicked seem to have no shame. Their hearts are never humbled Their bodies are sound, their pockets are full. They scoff at the righteous ones They say You don’t know. They say You can’t see But where else could I go? Chorus Whom have I in heaven but You? There’s nothing on the earth I desire more? My flesh may fail but You are the strength of my heart forever. Whom have I in heaven but You? There’s nothing on the earth I desire more? My flesh may fail but You are the strength of my heart forever. Verse 2 I walked into the house of the Lord trying to understand The bitterness in my soul had made me a foolish man But You didn’t scorn. You held my hand, You led me home again. You are the shelter the world hasn’t seen I’ll tell everyone I can Back To Chorus Bridge Your nearness is my good. Your nearness in my good. Truly good, truly good. about

It has always been a dream of mine to record a live album. This record is just me and my guitar, with no overdubs, and no place to hide. There are a couple of mistakes in my playing but since the Psalms are so full of people confessing their mistakes, I found it appropriate to leave them on the final recording unchanged.
It took a little over a year to make this live album. It was a process of research into the Psalms, writing and rewriting music, doing more research, and practicing for countless hours. I can’t thank my (then pregnant) wife Jenn enough for enduring all those hours of practice while these songs were being formed in me.
The Psalms insist that you take your time. They are some of the most ancient prayers, hymns, and faith statements that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam possess. My goal was to be true to the heart of these Jewish Prayers, while at the same time being faithful to my own beliefs as a Christian. My hope is that all who hear this album would be drawn closer to the heart of God in some way.
No matter what season of life you may find yourself in, be it with a fist full or curses or a mouth full of praises, the Psalms chronicle our human state while daring us to encounter God together. The Psalms have 5 sections and there are two songs from each section on this album.
I hope that you’ll listen to this record uninterrupted from the start to the finish and take the journey that the Psalm writers indented for us to take. It’s a journey of faithfulness as faith being lost. It’s a journey that will wound you but will also bring you to health. It’s a journey of joyful triumph and agonizing loss. Most of all it’s a journey of life with many companions, not the least of whom is a wild God unleashed among us, loving us too much to let us walk these roads alone.
My prayer for you is that you will be blessed and touched by these ancient words. I pray that you will be formed by the One whose love will be our song forever. So beware the roads the wicked send you down, and let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Blessings,
Rick Lee James
